He fouled his own teammate? Epic

I loved dicksy as a player but generally he talks a load of bollocks, I find.

Loved him as a player but talks a lot of nonsense in that interview - especially around Rice.

Peak Dicks would worth around £60-80m today, fantastic player.

For a couple of seasons he was the only thing worth going to watch in my opinion, remember an away game at Swindon when we were going for promotion and he was superb, sure he had his faults but one of my favourite ever players and he totally "got " west ham!

Re: Dicksy on Hammers Chat
Recall call him nearly taking off David Kelly's leg once at Leicester straight after Kelly responsed to abuse from hammers fans by rubbing his fingers together (as am in the money)
Forever in his debt.

Do for me.

Dicksy was a great player for us and seems like a good bloke but he was contradicting himself a lot during this interview.

Will probably still end up buying the book though!

If you have read Julian's original book and his interviews in other West Ham books you will not have missed his stories about not being the best trainer in the world and his battles and tantrums with various managers, including the likes of Bonzo. Whilst some are amusing as a fan to read if one of Julian's players behaved like that these days I suspect he wouldn't be too happy, it only takes one to hit back with "well that's what you did as a player!" Of course you can't speculate. He may well use his behaviour as a younger man as an example to his players on how NOT to behave. What he is right about though is that you have to give 100% on the pitch even if you are having a bad game and too many these days look like they aren't.

I think Bilic saw him as a take no nonsense bouncer kind of person?

Re: Dicksy on Hammers Chat
Echo others. A legend for me and is left back in my all-time West Ham eleven... however he is a bit of an oddball and you have to question why Bilic repeatedly hires someone who doesn't watch football

Loved Julian as a player and met him one night at an evening with him and McAvennie, and he was as good as gold but it was a bit of a strange interview. On the one hand he says he hates the Bowl but says the Club are more likely to get top class players playing there than you would at Upton Park. Then he slated Macari for the style of football but the next moment says that with Moyes he would rather see the team grind out results than play good football, unless I read that wrong. He certainly cares for the Club though, but he has never been much of a watcher.

straw - Same as me, he was an icon as a player, many fans grew up with him as their hero, but he's a strange fella for sure. I recall when we were last in the championship and he was on the radio co-commentating on or games most weeks, he was very blunt which was kind of funny, but his knowledge of the game is shocking, like many ex-pro's.

Re: Dicksy on Hammers Chat
Dicks was my favourite player in the 90's when I was a young lad. I was there that night when we beat Spurs 4-3, I was 9 or 10. Amazing.

But he says in the first 5 minutes here that he doesn't watch much football, he basically compares our final to the anglo-italian cup 'but it's a final'. And tellingly, because he doesn't watch much football it's his missus who tells him if West Ham have won or not. His love for West Ham is clear because he misses being on that pitch at Upton Park, where he was brilliant for us.

Maybe it was better after the first 5 minutes but I decided Julian's views on our current situation wasn't for me. But I'll always love him as a player. Absolutely superb and should have played for England around 95-97, he controlled games from left back. Unreal.

Re: Dicksy on Hammers Chat
Thought this was a bit of an uncomfortable interview really, as much as I liked him as a player he doesn't come across well in this at all.

loved him as a player, and love his honesty
